MGRS&UTM&USGS

MGRS is the abbreviation of Military Grid Reference System, UTM is the abbreviation of Universal Transverse Mercator,  USGS is the abbreviation of United States National Grid, established as a universal coordinate system by the Florida Fire Chiefs Association (FFCA). In fact, both MGRS and USGS maps use a system of numbers and letters that display UTM coordinates.

The relationship between MGRS coordinates and UTM is shown in the figure below.

MGRS is a continuous string, how to interpret this coordinate. The first coordinate in the table is 18SUJ7082315291, where 18S is the name of the grid area in which it is located, and UJ is the 100K grid ID that identifies a unique 100,000 square meter square within the grid area; an even number of digits, used for The coordinates are calculated to the desired level of precision, that is, the top set of numbers 70823 represents the measurement of the east-west position within 100,000 square meters, in meters. This is called Dongsheng. A map using a 1000m grid, with the first two digits from the large font on the gridline label on the west side of the location. The last 3 digits are the distance (in meters) measured from the western grid line. Another set of numbers, 15291, represents the north-south position measurement within 100,000 square meters, in meters. It's called Beidou. Using a map with a 1000m grid, the first two numbers are from large font on the grid line labels south of the location. The last 3 digits are the distance (in meters) measured from the southern grid line.
